What
In auto mode, Claude Code decides on its own whether an action needs your permission, using a separate check that reads the conversation. The view of your messages that this check reads now keeps track of more things:
whether a question was answered
whether something came after a reply
whether something carried over a compaction, which is when older conversation is summarised to save room
a held state while compaction is happening
which nudges and messages are its own
Before, it only knew whether a message was delivered or still on its way.
Why
This changes what auto mode's permission check sees when it decides.
