Unclear What Claude Code does when it finds a variable-like value outside the environment section is not stated.

What

MCP servers are outside programs that give Claude extra tools, and their settings can contain variables that Claude Code fills in from your environment. The way Claude Code fills these in has been reorganized. It now also checks whether any setting other than the server's environment section contains something that looks like a variable.

Why

There is no stated effect yet. The new check may be used to warn about variables in other parts of a server's settings.
