What
A background task is work Claude Code keeps running while you carry on. MCP is the system that lets Claude Code talk to add-on tool servers. Claude Code sends status notifications about background tasks through MCP, and it now skips them for any task whose status record is marked as hold-capped.
Why
This stops repeated notifications for tasks in that state.
