MCP servers are add-on tools that Claude Code connects to. Each call to one of their tools has a timeout, a limit on how long Claude Code waits before giving up.
Claude Code can now pause that timeout while a question is open. When the question closes, the time spent waiting is added back to the timeout, up to 230 seconds, and the timer starts again. Claude Code records how each pause ended.
The pause applies only when:
- the tool call has no explicit timeout of 1 second or more
- the remote setting
tengu_rosy_finchis switched on, which it is not unless Anthropic's server turns it on
A long MCP tool call that stops to ask you something would no longer time out just because you took a while to answer.
