Unclear Whether the messages kept after compaction actually differ, and when the reactive path is used, is not stated.
What
Compaction is when Claude Code summarises older parts of a conversation to free up room. The part that picks where to split the conversation, older messages to summarise and newer ones to keep, has been reorganised. It now splits just after the last compaction boundary or the last real message from you.
There is also a new "reactive" path with its own way of picking the split point.
Why
This may change which recent messages are kept word for word after a compaction.
