What
The help text for -r, --resume [value] now reads: "Resume a conversation by session ID or name, or open interactive picker with optional search term". It previously mentioned only a session ID.
A session is one saved conversation with Claude Code. --resume is a flag, an option you type after the claude command, that reopens one.
Why
The built-in help now matches the fact that you can pick a past conversation by its name and not only by its long ID.
The entry above is what we published on the day. These lines were added later, as Anthropic's own pages caught up, and they sit beside the original rather than replacing it.
Confirmed sinceAnthropic's documentation has since written up --resume, on Error reference.* If a former teammate you resumed yourself with `claude --resume` got this refusal, nothing was sent. To end that session, run `/exit` at its prompt.errorssee the edit
