What

Claude Code can fetch settings from Anthropic's servers, such as settings an organization manages for you, and keeps a saved copy. Before, an empty (204) or not-found (404) reply was read as "no settings found".

Now, if such a reply has no Anthropic request id, Claude Code treats it as coming from an intermediary, such as a company proxy sitting between you and Anthropic. It keeps the cached settings and does not retry the request. This does not apply when signing in through a gateway with gateway_jwt authentication.

Why

A proxy or network device that answers with a 404 can no longer wipe out the managed settings Claude Code had saved.
