Unclear What the kept model rows are and what creates them is not stated.

What

/model switches the AI model Claude Code uses. In a remote session, where Claude Code runs in the cloud and you connect to it, the picker changes in two ways:

  • /model now looks for kept model rows saved for the session. If there are any, it opens a new picker showing them. If there are none, it uses the previous picker. This sits behind the modelCatalog gate, and when that gate does not apply, /model prints a system message instead.
  • The list of available models for a cloud session is now cached for each session and refreshed. Before, it was fetched once each time the picker opened.

Why

In cloud sessions the model picker can show models kept for that session and should open faster, since it no longer refetches the full list every time.

Since it was published

The entry above is what we published on the day. These lines were added later, as Anthropic's own pages caught up, and they sit beside the original rather than replacing it.

Added since A small documentation edit on Error reference touched a line naming /model after this was published. * Reduce concurrency: avoid running many parallel subagents, or switch to a smaller model with `/model` for high-volume scripted runs errors see the edit
Confirmed since Anthropic's documentation has since written up /model, on The MCP Registry. > The MCP Registry is currently in preview. Breaking changes or data resets may occur before general availability.
