What
Skills, custom slash commands and hooks can contain placeholders such as $ARGUMENTS, which Claude Code replaces with whatever you typed after the command. This replacement now has limits:
The text after replacement may not exceed a set number of characters. Past that, Claude Code stops with an error telling you to "Use shorter arguments or fewer placeholders such as $ARGUMENTS."
Placeholder names longer than a set length are ignored.
Only a limited number of named placeholders are filled in.
Before, arguments were filled in with no size check.
Why
Passing very large arguments to a skill or command now produces a clear error instead of expanding into an enormous prompt.
