Each tool Claude can use comes with written instructions telling Claude how to use it. The instructions for the Read tool (reading files), the Grep tool (searching file contents) and the Agent tool (starting subagents) can now be built in an alternate shortened form, chosen based on the model in use. No instructions Claude actually receives changed in this release. The Agent tool's description in this release's capture is the same length as in the previous one.
Why
This is groundwork for trying shorter tool instructions. Nothing changes for you yet.
