A subagent is a separate helper agent that Claude Code starts to handle part of a task. When a subagent is asked to run in a different working folder (its cwd) and that is refused, Claude Code now stops before launching it and shows an error.
The message is either:
"Cannot run the agent in another directory: ... Start it without cwd."
"A plugin's agent.spawn hook set cwd on this spawn", when a plugin's hook asked for the different folder
Why
If you or a plugin start subagents in other folders, a refusal now shows up as a clear error at launch.
