At the start of a session Claude Code reads project files, such as CLAUDE.md, to give the model background about your project. Before, it read them once. If that read failed, the files were missing for the whole session.
Now, when the read fails, Claude Code tries again:
- after 5 seconds
- after 30 seconds
- after 120 seconds
If a retry itself fails with an error, Claude Code keeps whatever project context it already had.
Separately, resuming an interrupted turn now handles tool calls that were replaced by later ones. A tool call is a single action the model asks Claude Code to take, such as reading a file. Resuming also takes account of rate-limit messages.
A CLAUDE.md file that failed to load because of a brief hiccup can now still reach the model later in the same session, so you do not have to restart.
