What

When a long piece of text, such as a file path, is too wide to show, Claude Code can shorten it by cutting out the middle and keeping the start and the end. It used to split the available width in half between the two ends. It now measures the start and end pieces and recalculates if the result comes out too short.

Why

Shortened text should now use the space it has more fully, so more of a long path or name stays readable.
