What

The list of available models that Claude Code receives can now say which version of Claude Code each model needs.

  • Model entries gain an optional min_claude_code_version field. It must match a version pattern, and an invalid value is ignored.
  • When your Claude Code is older than an entry's minimum, that model is treated as not offered and shown as disabled, and the required version is passed along as minimumVersion.
  • Entries without the field are checked as before.
  • When switching to such a model fails with not_offered, the message now names the version needed instead of a generic refusal: "does not support this model; version ... or newer is required. Run 'claude update', or update the Claude desktop app, then try again."

Why

If a model is greyed out or a switch is refused, the message now tells you it needs a newer Claude Code and how to get it, so you can run claude update or update the Claude desktop app.
