What

The plugin install code that handles --replace was looked at in this release from two angles:

  • Install hint: the suggested install command is now built from --replace and --scope. This is for a plugin that duplicates another from the same repository.
  • Disabled MCP servers: MCP servers are outside programs that give Claude Code extra tools. When Claude Code reconciles its list of MCP servers, servers you have disabled are now kept as disabled entries and are not connected.
  • Other changes: one review found the rest of the --replace install code was only renamed by the build process. The changelog built into Claude Code now begins at 2.1.294.

Why

If you get an install hint for a duplicate plugin, it now spells out the --replace and --scope options to use. MCP servers you have disabled should no longer be connected in the background.

What the documentation says
--scope Install and manage plugins modified, high confidence The shell command adds the marketplace without a confirmation step. A marketplace you've already added from that source is reused. --scope Troubleshoot plugins modified, high confidence Run the same uninstall command again, with the same `--scope`, from the same folder. The second run finds no record under its own spelling of the path, so it removes the one under the other spelling. For a project-scope install: see the edit
