Unclear What setting this variable changes in web search answers, and which conditions it needs, is not established.
What
An environment variable is a setting you give a program from your shell before starting it. Claude Code now recognises CLAUDE_CODE_WEBSEARCH_CITATIONS_DECLARED, listed next to the existing CLAUDE_CODE_WEBSEARCH_CITATIONS.
Setting it is not enough on its own: Claude Code acts on it only when one other condition holds and a further one does not.
Why
It is a second switch for web search citations, related to how citations are declared when Claude Code sends a request to the API.
