What
When the Read tool refuses a file because it is too large, Claude Code has new messages to tell Claude what to do next:
- Claude can call Read again with an override option to read as much as still fits in its context, the amount of text it can hold at once.
- Even the override would not fit in what is left this turn.
- The override is not available where the read runs, so Claude should read the file in parts by giving a starting line and a line count.
Why
It changes how Claude recovers when a large file read is refused, giving it a way to read part of the file straight away.
