What

When Claude uses the Edit tool on a large file, Claude Code can now leave out the copy of the original file from the stored result of that edit. The full result is held briefly in a limited holding area, and the oldest entries are dropped when it gets full. A separate count is kept when this happens inside a subagent, a helper Claude starts to handle part of a task.

Why

This keeps big edits from swelling the conversation record or using up memory.
