What
When Claude Code tries to restart itself and fails, it now shows one of two messages:
"Claude Code couldn't restart. Start Claude Code again."
"Claude Code couldn't restart. Your conversation is saved. Start Claude Code again and run /resume to pick it up."
/resume reopens an earlier conversation, by ID or name, or from a list.
Why
If a restart fails, you now get told what to do next. When the second message appears, your conversation was saved, and /resume brings it back.
