What
A handoff is when a program passes a running Claude Code session over to another one. When a handoff request is malformed, Claude Code now checks the list of messages and the tool call IDs field by field, and it checks each message's content on its own. Errors now point at a specific item, for example messages.<number> with "Invalid input". Previously the first problem found by a single overall check was reported.
Why
Only the error messages change. Programs that hand off sessions get a more exact idea of what is wrong with a rejected request.
