What
Claude Code now recognises a diskless session, which is a session that has no files on a disk to read from. In such a session it skips several steps that would normally read from the disk:
Skills (reusable instructions Claude can load) are not scanned. Claude Code shows the warning "the session is diskless, so no skills load from it". The exception is skills from managed policy settings, the settings your organization deploys.
The check of your home folder reports the reason "diskless".
Two file reads report that the file is absent instead of failing.
The environment details Claude Code records report the shell as "none" and do not probe for a package manager or runtime.
A background preparation step also stops early if Claude Code is exiting.
Why
Hosted or embedded sessions that have no files get a clean, quiet path instead of errors from reads that cannot work.
