What
Claude Code ships with a description of the settings an administrator can set for the Claude Desktop app. Three settings are new in it:
sshTransport: how SSH connections are made, one of auto, system-openssh or builtin.
desktopHome: one of standard, simple, no-vm or off. It joins Chat and Cowork into a single home. When it is set, it replaces the separate Allow Chat, Advanced file analysis and Allow Cowork settings.
dangerousMaxVersion: a version in X.Y.Z form, for third-party deployments only. Auto-update stops at that version, and devices already on a newer version cannot open Claude. The description itself advises leaving it unset because it delays security fixes.
Many existing fields are also now marked as applying to the Desktop app, so Desktop-only settings can be dropped when sessions run off the device. These settings are for the Desktop app. They do not change how the command-line Claude Code behaves.
Why
Administrators of the Desktop app get new controls over SSH, the home screen layout and how far auto-update goes. dangerousMaxVersion in particular can leave devices without security fixes.
