What
In a remote session, Claude Code can pass files from one turn to the next through a handoff folder. That handoff now works by file name:
- Files placed in the handoff folder can be refreshed by name.
- A file is replaced only if the copy on disk has not changed, checked by its size, a fingerprint of its contents and its modification time.
- Placed files are written fully to disk after copying.
- A table matching file names to their stored copies is saved and read back, so it carries across separate Claude Code processes.
Why
Files stay in sync across handoffs in remote sessions, and a file that changed on disk is not overwritten.
