Claude Code has a new wait that can happen before a tool call, which is when Claude uses one of its tools, such as reading a file. If files staged for the session are still arriving, it can wait for them to settle first. Staged files are files that are being placed into the session.
The wait runs only when a remote switch allows it. When the server sends nothing, the switch counts as off. With the switch off, Claude Code records that the wait was skipped and carries on. With it on, it records whether the files settled, the wait timed out, or it was cancelled. If the wait time allowed has already been used up, it does not wait. A similar wait when a turn is handed over already existed.
This is aimed at remote sessions, where files may still be arriving when Claude tries to use them. Nothing changes unless the switch is turned on from the server.
