What

Activity digests are summaries of recent activity that Claude Code passes to the model. They are now wrapped in tags that carry a nonce, which is a one-off random code. The digest notes that anything shaped like a tag but without that code is just text inside the digest.

They are also capped in size:

  • Long inputs are shortened.
  • Over the character limit, earlier items are left out, with a note saying how many were omitted.
Why

Text inside a digest cannot pass itself off as a real tag. This makes the digest harder to use for slipping in instructions, and keeps very long digests from growing without limit.
