Unclear What the switch changes about startup, beyond skipping the early fetch of managed settings, is not stated.

What

Managed settings are settings that an organization's administrator sets for everyone using Claude Code. At startup Claude Code now reads a server-controlled switch. When the switch is on, and the session does not prepare itself, Claude Code passes a different value into its startup step and does not fetch managed settings ahead of time. Before, that startup step always ran the same way. The switch is off unless it is turned on remotely.

There is also a message for when managed settings need you to approve them but Claude Code cannot ask: "Your organization's managed settings need your approval, which couldn't be asked for here."

Why

This affects when your organization's managed settings are loaded at startup. If you see the approval message, your organization's settings are waiting for your approval in a place where Claude Code cannot show the question.
