Claude Code has two new environment variables (settings passed in from the shell):
CLAUDE_CODE_MANAGED_CONFIG_PREFETCH: read during startup to decide whether to fetch managed configuration early. Managed configuration is settings set by an organization.
CLAUDE_CODE_ARTIFACT_VERSIONS: treated as a host-only variable, so it is removed from the environment of programs Claude Code starts. The name is matched regardless of upper or lower case.
Why
Both are switches for the program hosting Claude Code. Fetching managed settings early could change how long startup takes.
