Model family names now pass through a remotely controlled allowlist

Claude Code can now sort a model into a family such as Fable, Haiku, Mythos, Opus or Sonnet, and names it only when a server-side list allows it

What

Claude Code can now work out which family a model belongs to. The family names it recognises are:

  • Fable
  • Haiku
  • Mythos
  • Opus
  • Sonnet

It reports a family name only if that name appears on a list Claude Code receives from Anthropic's servers. Fable is the exception and is always reported. When the server sends no list, no family is allowed except Fable.

Why

This lets Anthropic decide from its side which family names Claude Code shows, without shipping a new release. Fable appears among the names and does not depend on the list.
