What

MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers are outside programs that give Claude extra tools. A program that embeds Claude Code through the SDK can send a request to set which MCP servers a session uses. Before, Claude Code could put off connecting to those servers. Now it always connects them right away.

The same request can also now refuse some tools with a new error message.

Why

If your app sets MCP servers this way, they are now connected eagerly. Expect the connection work to happen at that point rather than later.
