What

The Agent tool is what Claude uses to start a subagent, a helper agent that works on a delegated task. It now accepts an optional effort field that sets how much reasoning effort the subagent uses.

Claude is told to set this field only when you, or instructions such as CLAUDE.md or a skill, explicitly ask for that agent or delegated work to run at a specific effort level. For subagent_type: "fork", the instructions add that a fork always runs at the same effort as the agent that started it.

Why

If you want delegated work done at a particular effort level, you can now ask for it, either in your request or in CLAUDE.md or a skill, and the subagent will run that way.
