What
A small helper used to ask Anthropic's servers for the tengu_calm_bear flag, falling back to false when there was no answer (return A("tengu_calm_bear", !1);). In this release it simply returns false (return !1;) and no longer asks the server.
- The helper sits at the minified (shortened, machine-generated) name
mme. That name is reused for several unrelated pieces of code, and the parts of Claude Code that call this particular helper were not traced. - The fallback was already false before this release.
Why
Whatever depends on this helper is now off for everyone running this build, and a server-side switch can no longer turn it on. Which feature that is has not been identified.
tengu_calm_bear Off in both readingsThe flag server returned off for the account this site reads and for the anonymous baseline. A reading of off cannot rule out a rollout these two readings sit outside of.
This account: off · anonymous baseline: off · compiled default in v2.1.290: not a boolean we can read
These values were read against a different version of Claude Code, so treat them as the nearest reading available instead of one taken on this release.
