Unclear It is not clear whether the warning is shown to the user on screen or only recorded in usage data.

What

Managed settings are policy files an administrator places on a computer to control Claude Code, in managed-settings.json and the managed-settings.d folder. Claude Code now inspects any of these that are reached through a link, meaning a shortcut that points to a file or folder stored somewhere else. Each link is sorted into one of three groups:

  • inside the expected location
  • outside it
  • unverified

A link that points outside produces a warning that says: "Ask your administrator to replace the link with the file or folder it points to." Claude Code also records an event about these links in its usage data.

Why

Organisations that set up policy files as links will start seeing these warnings and may need to replace the links with the real files.
