What

A setup or file-lock helper in Claude Code now creates its target file empty, with permissions that let only your own user account read or write it (mode 0600). It only creates the file if it is not already there, and a file that already exists is not treated as an error. When the helper hits an error, it now also creates the file if the path points to a regular file, where before it only ran its cleanup step.

Why

Creating the file in advance with private permissions means it never exists with looser access than intended.
