What
In bare mode, running /login with Anthropic as your provider no longer opens the sign-in flow. Bare mode does not use the sign-in that /login saves. Claude Code now shows a message explaining this. The message says bare mode reads your credentials from either of these:
It tells you to set or change one of them and restart Claude Code.
Why
Before, /login in bare mode went through a sign-in that had no effect. You now get a clear reason and are told what to set instead.

In non-interactive mode (-p), the key is always used when present. In interactive mode, you are prompted to approve the key once before it overrides your subscription. To use your subscription instead, run unset ANTHROPIC_API_KEY

Anthropic's notes
Upstream's own release notes for v2.1.288 name something this entry names, so the two are probably about the same change. Probably: the pairing is made on a shared name rather than on the words around it.
Fixed /login reporting "Login successful" when credentials could not be saved to secure storage; it now shows the failure, and offers a retry when the new login didn't take effect (anthropics/claude-code#73861)
Fixed /login in a --bare session running a sign-in the session never reads, which could replace your saved login; it now says which credentials work
