Claude Code contains a shortcut for edit requests about an artifact page the session already has. When it applies, Claude Code does not send that request to the model. Instead it:
- edits the artifact file directly using the Edit tool, the built-in tool for changing a file
- reads the file with the Read tool to publish it
- replies with a fixed message
It only applies to the first request in a turn, in the main conversation rather than a helper agent, outside plan mode and brief mode, and only for certain models. By default that list holds claude-opus-5-5, and the server-side setting can replace it. If the shortcut fails while setting up, the request goes to the model as usual.
This would answer simple artifact edits without a full model turn. Its built-in default is off, and the setting that controls it, tengu_cobalt_plinth_orpine, read as off both for this site's account and for an anonymous check.
tengu_cobalt_plinth_orpine Off in both readingsThe flag server returned off for the account this site reads and for the anonymous baseline. A reading of off cannot rule out a rollout these two readings sit outside of.
This account: off · anonymous baseline: off · compiled default in v2.1.288: not a boolean we can read
These values were read against a different version of Claude Code, so treat them as the nearest reading available instead of one taken on this release.
Read once, for one account on one subscription tier, against v2.1.288. It isn't a statement about your account. What a flag value here can and cannot tell you
It is not clear where in Claude Code this shortcut is wired in.
