What
Plugins add extra commands and abilities to Claude Code, and many are installed from the Anthropic Directory. Claude Code updates them in the background. If the Directory lists a newer version of a plugin but that background update failed, the plugin now shows an error. The error says it is still on the old version and tells you to choose "Update now" in /plugin → Installed to try again.
Before this change, no error was shown in this case.
Why
If a background update failed, you now get a visible reason and a clear way to fix it, so you are not left unknowingly on an outdated plugin.
