What

When Claude Code uploads your git repository, it checks the rules in your .gitattributes files. If that check fails, the message now says the rules could not be read reliably. It advises you to try again, and if that fails, to save committed .gitattributes files as plain UTF-8 without a BOM. A BOM is an invisible marker that some editors put at the start of a file.

Why

The old message only said the files could not be read. The new one tells you what to do about it.
