What
Claude in Chrome lets Claude control your Chrome browser. Its file_upload action, which picks a file from disk and uploads it to a web page, is now refused when the session has no disk to read files from. Remote sessions are one example. The refusal also covers a file_upload step inside browser_batch, a single call that bundles several browser actions.
When this happens nothing in the call runs. Claude is told: "file_upload is not available in this session, alone or inside browser_batch, and nothing in this call ran. Ask the user to choose the file in their browser themselves."
Before this release, file_upload always went through the normal permission handling.
Why
In a session with no disk there is no local file to upload, so this stops a pointless upload attempt. Instead, Claude asks you to choose the file in the browser yourself.
