Artifact tools are the tools that store and fetch artifacts through Anthropic's service. Claude Code now has a path for when an organization's network policy applies to a session. When it does:
- Relay: the route to the artifact service is forced into its strict mode and nothing is sent through it.
- Artifact tools: they refuse, saying network access for the session is off or could not be confirmed, so nothing was posted or fetched.
- Storage refusals: a refusal from the server saying organization policy blocks artifact storage for the session is recognised only in this case.
This path is tied to a server-side switch. The flag server has returned off for it, both for this site's account and for an anonymous check.
This gives organizations a way to stop artifact tools from using the network, with a clear message instead of a vague failure.
tengu_cobalt_plinth_madder Off in both readingsThe flag server returned off for the account this site reads and for the anonymous baseline. A reading of off cannot rule out a rollout these two readings sit outside of.
This account: off · anonymous baseline: off · compiled default in v2.1.287: not a boolean we can read
These values were read against a different version of Claude Code, so treat them as the nearest reading available instead of one taken on this release.
tengu_cobalt_plinth_sorrel On for this account, and not off by defaultThe flag server returned on for the one account this site reads, and nothing in this release compiles it off by default. The compiled default is shown below, and says which it is when we cannot read one: a fifth of gates compile in a string or a number rather than on or off, and most published releases have no gate table behind them at all. No client can see what the server returns for your account.

Read once, for one account on one subscription tier, against v2.1.287. It isn't a statement about your account. What a flag value here can and cannot tell you
What decides whether the organization policy applies to a session is not known.
