What probably matters to youSection of the release
What
A new announcement reads "{from} is your default model." followed by "Press {key} to make {to} your default." The first name is your saved model and the second is a newer one. The key comes from the chat:defaultToNewerModel keybinding, which defaults to ctrl+y.
It offers a newer model in the same family as the model saved in your user settings.
It appears only when a newer model is pending and that keybinding is available.
It is shown a limited number of times, spaced out, and records whether you answered.
The offer's settings come from a remote configuration whose built-in default turns it off.
Why
If you have a saved model, Claude Code may prompt you to switch your default to a newer one.

The writer flagged doubtIt is unclear when exactly the notice appears, since what marks a newer model as pending was not traced.
