What
Messages can carry images stored as base64 text, a way of writing image data as plain characters. Claude Code now reads such an image only if its image data really is text. A media type that is not text is ignored. The code that looks for file paths in the Write and Edit tools also now copes with badly formed message content.
Why
A damaged image in a saved conversation or in data sent through the SDK should no longer crash image extraction. The SDK is the kit other programs use to run Claude Code.
