What
Claude Code checks whether two paths point to the same place when it handles worktrees (extra folders that each hold a separate checkout of the same git repository). The check used to answer "untrusted", meaning it could not tell, whenever the file system's identity numbers looked unreliable. It now answers "different" when:
- one path has a reliable file identity number and the other does not
- both paths report a real drive number and those numbers are not the same
It only answers "untrusted" when it genuinely cannot work out whether the paths are the same.
Why
On file systems where these identity numbers are unreliable, such as some Windows or network drives, paths that are plainly different should no longer be treated as uncertain.
