What
A marketplace is a catalog that plugins are installed from. Validating a marketplace now gives an error with the code UNRECORDABLE_NAME when the marketplace name or a plugin's name breaks the naming rules. The messages read "Claude Code cannot install plugins from marketplace …" or "Claude Code cannot install plugin …".
Each part of a plugin id (plugin@marketplace) may use only:
letters a-z and A-Z
digits
".", "_" and "-"
It must also start with a letter or digit.
The warning about names that are not kebab-case now says when loading with --plugin-dir or installing from a marketplace would refuse the name. Messages also point out when a name contains a character that cannot be displayed.
Why
Before, these names only got a warning aimed at Claude Desktop. That warning said Claude Code accepts the name, even though Claude Code could not install it.
