What

Keybindings are your custom keyboard shortcuts. A modifier is a key like ctrl that you hold down with another key. The troubleshooting table for keybindings has a new row for an error where the word before the key is not a modifier. For example, if you type ctl for ctrl, Claude Code drops it, and the shortcut ends up on a different key.

The row gives two fixes:

  • correct the modifier using the Keystroke Syntax list; the error message suggests the corrected keystroke when it can
  • if you meant a chord (a shortcut made of several key presses in a row), put a space between its keystrokes
Why

A typo in a modifier can move a shortcut to a different key without you noticing. This row explains the error and how to fix it.
