Claude Code v2.1.283 ·

Keybinding help now treats cmd as its own key, separate from meta

What

Claude Code lets you customise keyboard shortcuts, and its reference text lists the modifier keys you can use. That text has been corrected:

  • meta is described as the same key as alt in terminals, which is the Option key on macOS. It no longer lists cmd or command as aliases.
  • cmd is documented as a separate modifier, with the aliases command, super and win. Most terminals never send this key to programs.
  • The time allowed between the keys of a chord, a shortcut made of two key presses in a row, is now given as 3 seconds instead of 1 second.

Claude Code already read cmd, command, super and win as the Super key in the previous build, so the text now matches how shortcuts already behaved.

Why

If you bound a shortcut to cmd+… expecting it to act like meta, the old text misled you. A shortcut meant for Option or Alt should use meta or alt.

The writer flagged doubtIt is not confirmed whether the chord timeout itself changed or was already 3 seconds.
