Claude Code can edit your prompt with Vim-style keys. In Vim, r followed by a character replaces the character under the cursor, and a number in front replaces that many. Claude Code now first checks that enough characters remain before the end of the text or the end of the line:
If there are not enough, nothing changes, as in Vim.
If there are, all the characters are replaced at once and the cursor lands on the last one.
Before, a count larger than the rest of the line replaced everything left, including the line break and characters on the next line.
Why
Typing something like 5rx near the end of a line used to join lines and damage the next one. It now behaves the way Vim users expect.
