In Vim, `r` followed by a character replaces the character under the cursor, and a number in front replaces that many. Claude Code now first checks that enough characters remain before the end of the text or the end of the line:\n\n- If there are not enough, nothing changes, as in Vim.\n\n- If there are, all the characters are replaced at once and the cursor lands on the last one.\n\nBefore, a count larger than the rest of the line replaced everything left, including the line break and characters on the next line.\n\n**Why**\n\nTyping something like `5rx` near the end of a line used to join lines and damage the next one.
