What
A lock file is a small marker file Claude Code writes so that two processes do not change the same thing at once. Before creating a .lock file, Claude Code now creates the folder it goes in if that folder is missing. Previously it tried to write the file straight away.
Why
A missing folder could make the lock fail without any visible sign. Creating the folder first stops that from happening.
