Claude Code checks whether a session counts as auto mode before deciding how to handle a tool call, meaning a request by Claude to use one of its tools. Plan mode, where Claude plans before making changes, could count as auto mode. It no longer does for served calls, which are tool calls run on behalf of a remote caller.
Why
A tool call served for someone else during plan mode no longer goes through the automatic permission check that auto mode uses. Other tool calls in plan mode are unaffected.
