What
MCP servers are add-on services that give Claude extra tools. Until one of them has signed in, Claude sees a placeholder in place of its tools. If Claude calls that placeholder after sign-in has finished, the reply now depends on the setup:
With tool search in use (Claude looks tools up on demand instead of seeing them all at once), the reply tells Claude to find the real tools with the search tool.
Without tool search, the reply says the real tools are already in its tool list and should be called instead of the placeholder.
Why
Claude gets directions that match how its tools are actually made available. That should make it reach the newly signed-in server's tools more directly.
